Out of all the places you can visit at the end of Thailand tours, I would have to recommend Ko Phi Phi as one to be prioritised.
For me the Thailand experience would not have been the same without a stop in this idyllic beach spot which is only accessible by boat from either Phuket or Krabi. Arriving on this island- which is characterised by crystal clear blue waters, atmospheric cliffs and long-tail boats- is like stepping into another world.
How to spend your time...
Phi Phi island tour is great in that you don’t have to worry about distinguishing between what type of holiday you want as exploration and relaxation seem to go pretty much hand in hand. This is particularly useful if you are on holiday with a group of people who have different preferences and interests like I was, and fantastic if you like to mix up your holiday activities a little. Maybe you started your Thailand holiday in a city and are looking to completely chill out and relax, or maybe you like to be active and are keen to explore the nature and sights around you. Well either way you’re a winner as you can easily combine the two. I enjoyed many an hour sunbathing on the idyllic beaches, the best of which were reached by taking part in organised snorkelling trips that drop you off at various places en route. There is a lot on offer if you want to get involved and all activities are very easy to organise at one of the many agencies dotted around the island once you are there. The extensive crystal waters make Ko Phi Phi a popular destination for snorkelling, diving and kayaking but if that’s not your thing then don’t worry, you won’t miss out. You don’t even have to enter the water to catch a glimpse of the marine life and colourful fish that can be spotted from a perch on the jetty. Wildlife is rich both on land and in the sea so make sure you always have that camera at the ready. I had the surreal experience of witnessing a family of monkeys feeding each other right in front of me, definitely one for the album!
How to while away the evening...
During your stay on Ko Phi Phi, you'll find a good selection of bars and restaurants to relax in during the evening. My favourite spot would have to be the Reggae Bar where you can watch real Thai boxing shows throughout the night. The boxing ring is positioned in the centre of the bar with tables and raised seating around the edge so you can get a good view if you want to watch. Having never seen any live boxing before it was really exciting for me and I went back on more than one occasion. There are also many more low-key bars situated on the beach if you’re looking for a quieter more romantic evening. Alternatively, why not grab a cold Chang beer and take a stroll along the pretty shoreline with the waves licking at your toes.
A stay on the Ko Phi Phi islands is a fantastic way to end Thailand tour. Or on the other hand, if you’re not quite done with your Thailand travels, it positions you perfectly to carry on and explore yet more beautiful Thailand tours!
